On Saturday night a B.C. family’s son who is an 11-year old boy came close to being attacked by a cougar. Thankfully the family dog Golden Retriever stepped in to save the boy.
Police immediately responded to the scene thanks to an officer who was in the area. He was able to shoot the cougar dead and credited the Angel dog for saving Austin Forman life.
Austin decided to step out into the backyard to pick up some firewood, and that’s when the cougar decided to charge at him.
Austin told CTV News on Sunday, “I was terrified and didn’t realize it was a cougar. I thought it was another dog. When the cougar went underneath the light, that’s when I realized it was a cougar. I immediately went inside.”
Angel was next to Austin when everything unfolded and the heroic pup engaged with the cougar, which was slightly bigger than Angel.
Austin ran into the house and was screaming. His mother Sherri Forman said to ctvbc.ca, “He came screaming in saying the cougar is eating Angel.”
“I needed Austin to calm down and repeat himself as I didn’t realize what was happening,” said Sherri.
Sherri said, “When I looked out the window, I could hear Angel making a whimpering sound.” She realized she couldn’t do anything and the father-in-law called 9-1-1.
