Police say his dogs devoured a man who went missing for several months.
The dogs numbering 18 fed on Freddie Mack’s body. They also ate his clothes and hair. The incident happened at his Texas home.
The dogs left bone pieces of 2.5 inches. “We have never heard or come across someone who has heard of something like this,” deputy Aaron Pitts said. “The dogs broke the bones before eating them.”
Mark had existing health issues, and it is unknown whether his dogs killed him or the dogs ate him after he had died.
The man was reported missing from his home in May. His family said nothing had been heard of the man from mid-April.
According to the sheriff’s office, the fierce dogs were able to keep the family away from the deceased man’s property threatening the lives of deputies. Finally, they used distraction techniques to keep away the dogs and were able to search the property.
A thorough search on the property for several days led investigators to a gruesome discovery of animal droppings with human hair and clothing.
They also came across human bones scattered on the long grass.
DNA experts examined the large bones at the University of North Texas Center for Human Remains Identification, and results showed the bones were from Mack’s body.
Three of the dogs are up for adoption, while two died as a result of an attack from mates. Deputy Pitts said 13 of the dogs were euthanized for being aggressive.
The dogs were getting food and proper care, the deputy said, “He is a man who treasured his animals,” the deputy added.
