A Michigan family returned home on the evening of Christmas day and found their door open and unexpected guest resting on a chair.
They do not know precisely what had happened, but the visitor presented no threat. A dog had found his way into the home and was looking for a place to rest.
Seven days ago, River the dog went missing from his home. The dog’s owner tried her best to trace her dog. She informed every member of the community about River’s disappearance. She also reported the matter to Lost Paws, a local animal recovery group.
A search was conducted on all surrounding areas and posters of the missing dog placed on every available space.
For a whole week, River was nowhere to be seen, and despite the efforts of search parties, the dog was not found. River was lucky to survive the winter weather with no one to feed him. He could no longer stand the suffering.
On noticing the dog resting on their couch, the thought of raccoon came to the minds of the Sluit family. River was four-legged and furry; however, in no time, the family came to terms with what had happened when they were away.
They realized River was the lost dog whose photos were posted on every corner of the neighborhood. It was now clear to them that the dog was from a nearby home.
They got in touch with Lost Paws, and a Christmas reunion was arranged. Contrary to reports that the dog had been seen several miles away, River had found his way in a nearby home and broke their house.
How River ended up in the house is a till a puzzle to the Sluit family. The family is, however, satisfied that they played a role in ensuring the dog and its owner found each other.
After finding his way back home, River is now on the recovery path and will soon be back on his feet. With enough rest and the right food, it won’t take long before he fully recovers.
Strobel is now cautious with her dog. River is always by her side, and she is grateful to have River by her side as she enters the new year.
